Baseline
Ground and surface water conditions ‑ rate of recharge, abstraction and water quality.
Target 2020
For ground water, there is no baseline data except for Savannah ground assessment in 2015 which showed significant stress. There has been no continuous assessment since then. There has been regular monitoring of surface water over last 30 years. There has been deteriorating water quality on New River and Belize River
Target 2030
Water inventory baselines established (quantity and quality) have 35 rivers (18 major) but only monitoring 17. Surface water hydrological observation network (S-HON) 7 ground water provinces; no monitoring. National Integrated Water Resources Authority (NIWRA) Act commenced Sep 1, 2015. No institutional arrangements established as yet; Improved water rights system in place
