- This indicator measures the magnitude of the annual growth or decline of the expenditure incurred by overnight tourists. Overnight tourists are those visitors who stay for one or more nights in the country they are visiting. The percentage change compares the year over year change in overnight tourist expenditure.

- The percentage change in overnight tourism expenditure tells the extent of the increase or decrease in the overnight tourism expenditure. The length of stay within the country must be at least one night but less than a year. A positive change means that overnight tourists are spending more money than the previous period. A negative change means that that the overnight tourists are spending less money than the previous period. Countries that rely heavily on the tourism industry benefit from higher expenditure by inbound visitors.
