This indicator measures the year over year increase or decrease in visitors whose trip includes one or more overnight stay
Abstract
Percentage change in overnight tourist arrivals measures the change in annual growth or decline of overnight tourists to a country. Overnight tourists are those visitors who stay for one or more nights in the country they are visiting. The percentage change compares the year over year change in the number of overnight tourists to a country.

The percentage change in overnight tourists tells by how much the number of overnight visitors increased or decreased over the previous year. The length of stay within the country must be at least one night and less than a year. The purpose of the trip can be for business, leisure or other personal purpose except to be employed by a resident entity in the country visited.
Classification used
Percentage change in overnight tourist arrivals is and economic indicator. A visitor is a traveller taking a trip to a main destination outside his/her usual environment for less than a year, for any main purpose (business, leisure, or other personal purpose) other than to be employed by a resident entity in the country or place visited. These trips taken by visitors qualify as tourism trips. Tourism refers to the activity of visitors. Recommended uses
Percentage change in overnight tourist arrivals is used to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of investment in tourism infrastructural development projects by the public and private sector.
Other comments
The number of overnight visitors to a country is determined by gathering summarized reports from the Immigration Department at the different ports of entry including airports and borders.
